I’d been curious about laser hair removal for years, so when
Jennifer Kandemir, owner and certified laser specialist at
Advanced Derma Laser Tech, Inc. in NYC offered to let me try
it out, I was all in. I opted for my underarms, and the treatment
lasted all of 90 seconds for both arms. I was a bit nervous, as I’d
heard that it can be painful, but it really wasn’t, I didn’t even
have to flinch. The smell of burning hair was the worst part.
Jennifer wanted me to see the results of the bikini area as well,
and I won’t lie to you, that did hurt. Nothing unbearable, it was
about on par with waxing, with the sensation of being flicked by a
rubber band. The treatment lasted a couple of minutes, and the pain
went away almost instantly. Afterward I didn’t have any pain or
redness.
The term hair removal is a bit of a misnomer; Jennifer prefers
“permanent hair reduction.” Two weeks after your first treatment,
your hair will fall out on its own. You will need subsequent
treatments—typically a total of 6 to 8—to remove up to 95 percent
of hair, permanently.
To prepare for your treatment, don’t shave for a couple of days,
and skip waxing, tweezing, and depilatory creams for at least three
weeks beforehand so they can see the hair stubble.
Boyfriend alert: Men are one of the fastest growing customer
segments for the office. Most are looking to get rid of stubble on
the underside of their chin and neck. Imagine, no more in-grown
hairs and bumps.
The office has two types of lasers, one for fair and medium skin
tones, and another specifically for dark tones who previously could
not get good results from laser reduction. Want to try it first for
free? Make an appointment for a complimentary patch test and
consultation.
