- Pay attention to what people around you wear, and don’t
be afraid to ask someone what scent they have on - just keep in
mind it may smell different on you
- Go shopping in the late afternoon, it’s your peak time for
scent sniffing. Take along some coffee beans if possible, these
will be your ‘palate cleanser’ between sprays
- Don't spray on yourself, instead ask for a fragrance
blotter. Mist and wait for it to dry
- Once you've narrowed it down to a scent or two, then you can
spray on your wrist to see how it works with your own chemistry.
Don’t rub wrists together or it will change the way the notes
play
- Wait at least 5-10 minutes for it to evaporate and the
base notes to develop fully
- Think about how the fragrance will work with other scents you
carry around on you from your bath gel, shampoo, lotion, etc.
- You may want to extend to a few signature fragrances:
one for day, one for evenings, and one for black-tie affairs. One
spray and you’re instantly in the right mood
- You can also have a few scents depending on the season:
Summer: Clean, grassy and breezy
Spring: Try a flirty floral or a citrus
Fall: Go for a more woody, earthy or oriental
scent
Winter: Can choose something a little more heavy
like spicy, cinnamon notes, or something comforting like
vanilla
